We’ve been here from the beginning

With 50 years of experience operating in Egypt, we understand the challenges that local pests present to homeowners here. So, whether you live in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, Port Said or Minya, whether you own a vacation home in the Mediterranean or Red Sea, we know how pests can impact your lives, your health, your property and, most importantly, we know how to find and control them.

As a member of the US National Pest Management Association, we benefit from the most up-to-date techniques and resources in pest management. Our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach means that we take our responsibility to you and the environment seriously. IPM is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices.

Through our years of experience and our active leadership in the Egyptian Pest Management Association of Egypt, we have honed comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, pets, property, and the environment.

We are transitioning to a new brand identity!

In 1972, when SOTAICO was first incorporated, we were the sole representative for Bayer Technology in Egypt. Our mandate covered Agricultural as well as urban pest control and included the important work of eradicating the Bilhartia virus from the Nile River.

Today, SOTAICO remains a pillar of the urban pest control arena in Egypt. Our new brand identity reflects our focus on environmentally friendly products and methods and embodies the responsive, action-oriented company we have always strived to be.

Protection against these pests and more:

When our Pest Control pro rings your doorbell, be confident that he has been

extensively trained and thoroughly security screened

We take your safety seriously.  This goes beyond the products and methods we use to control pests. All of our Pest Control pros receive extensive training before they service a home by themselves. Our pros are also annually screened with background checks at the Egyptian Police authority.  You can rest easy knowing that SOTAICO will always send a true professional to your home to resolve your pest issues.

Considerations when Hiring a Pest Control Company

“Pesticides can easily be sourced in Egypt. Some – meant for agricultural purposes only – are inexpensive and sometimes used indiscriminately in residential settings. But not all chemicals are alike from the standpoint of their toxicity to humans and pets, or persistence in the environment.”

License. License. License

Pests are a nuisance but the manner in which to control them mustn’t create a bigger hazard for your household, your pets or the environment.  Technicians need to be qualified; insecticides must be Public Health Certified and responsibly sourced, applied and disposed of.

To mitigate against any risks, make sure that the company you choose to hire is licensed.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health issues licenses for professional pest controllers based on availability of in-house expertise as well as health and safety considerations which are meant to protect consumers and the environment.  Be aware that in Egypt, pesticides can easily be sourced on the market.  Some of these, meant for agricultural purposes only, are at times indiscriminately used in residential setting because they are effective and very inexpensive. But be aware that not all chemicals are alike from the standpoint of their range of action, toxicity to humans and pets, or persistence in the environment.

You should select a pest control company the way you do any other service – Look for Quality and Value.  Costs and competency are important. When selecting a pest control service, cost should not be the only factor that determines the company you pick.  It is important to make sure the pest control company you choose is competent. If pesticides are misused, both health and property can be damaged. Before contracting with a pest control company, consider the following:

Take Your Time/Do Your Homework

When most people discover a pest problem, they want the problem eliminated immediately.  However, most problems can wait a few days so you have time to select a competent, reasonably priced company.  It is wise to obtain several estimates from prospective companies.  Most companies will provide free estimates.

Questions to Ask a Prospective Pest Control Firm

How many years have you been in business?

Contact the EPCA (Egyptian Pest Control Association) to determine if complaints have been filed against the company or its applicators for misusing pesticides.

Would you provide me with a list of references?

Contact several references to find out if they are satisfied with the service provided by the pest control company.

Does your company have a license to operate as a Pest Control Provider?

Each company must have commercial pest control license. If you are unsure, contact the EPCA

Would you provide me with a copy of your pest control license, copies of the labels for all pesticides used and the rates at which they will be applied?

[with extracts based on recommendations from the US Environmental Protection Agency]

Do green solutions exist?

Indeed, there are pest control companies in Egypt that pride themselves in incorporating Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques that use environmentally responsible (reduced-risk) pest control products, which eliminate or minimize the use of harmful pesticides.

Many of these companies concentrate their efforts on a home’s exterior and only do interior treatment with chemical products when absolutely necessary.

Although IPM may include the use of pesticides, the primary components of this program clearly separate it from typical pest control practices that rely exclusively on trapping and poisoning.  So, if an eco-friendly, safe pest control program is important for your home, be sure to ask your provider about their method of operation – specifically, about their usage of pesticides and involvement in the Integrated Pest Management approach.
